The Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Catalonia (AIJEC) welcomes the Spanish government’s decision to postpone the entry into force of Verifactu, the Tax Agency’s new invoice verification system, for one year. Under the new schedule, the requirement for companies is set for January 1, 2027, while for the self-employed and SMEs it is delayed until July 1 of the same year.
The employers’ association believes that the postponement facilitates “a realistic and acceptable technological adaptation,” especially in a context in which many small and medium-sized enterprises do not yet have invoicing tools compatible with Verifactu’s technical requirements. “Having an extra year will allow the business community to adapt rigorously and safely to a highly complex technological change,” the entity points out.
For AIJEC, the additional time also provides relief for the self-employed and SMEs, who were facing imminent adaptation with limited resources. The association warns that a hasty rollout could lead to cost overruns, implementation errors, and legal uncertainty, in a context in which many companies are already immersed in other digitization processes. For this reason, the employers’ association believes that the postponement will allow progress toward more modern and secure invoicing without generating unnecessary burdens for the business community.
Listening to businesses: a necessity
For Vicenç Del Mar Mullor, president of AIJEC, a digital transition of this scope requires “time, clear information, and guarantees.” That is why he affirms that “it was essential to listen to the real needs of SMEs and the self-employed, and we welcome the fact that the Administration has adjusted the timetable to avoid a disproportionate burden.”
In this vein, AIJEC urges the government to promote an accessible, practical, and consistent information campaign detailing the requirements, technical standards, and deadlines of the new system. It also calls on software providers to ensure agile updates, adequate technical support, and solutions tailored to the needs of micro-enterprises, SMEs, and self-employed professionals.
The association reaffirms its commitment to efficient, orderly, and proportional business digitization and announces that it will make specific advice and resources available to its members to facilitate this transition to Verifactu, “a tool that should serve to improve business management, not become an obstacle.”
