AIJEC participates in the act of support to expand the El Prat airport

This Wednesday, ESADE hosted a major act of protest that, under the clamor ‘Yes to the airport expansion agreement’, has united the economic and social fabric of the country to request the expansion of the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, with a new satellite terminal and the extension of 500 meters of one of the parallel runways.

Ruben Sans, president of AIJEC Joves Empresaris, has been one of the participants who has taken the stage to remind the administrations that this extension could contribute to the economic recovery of Catalonia and its growth. Sans recalled that, beyond studies and figures, this expansion is necessary “because airports are the connecting links of the true economy of the future, of ideas, innovation and people”.

“In the next 20 years, the number of passengers arriving and departing from our airports is expected to increase by 49%, and if we do not make their journey easy, they will invest elsewhere, in other young people and in other ideas,” he recalled. the president of AIJEC. The theme of sustainability has also occupied a preferential place in Sans’ speech, who wanted to highlight that confronting development and sustainability is a debate from the past. “In our world, companies, young people and mobility can only be understood in cleaner, more sustainable parameters, like each new infrastructure that arises in new cities, in our city”.

For the president of AIJEC Joves Empresaris, the reasons for requesting the expansion of El Prat are multiple. “Today a company arises on a terrace in El Born, obtains financing in London, is sold in Singapore, and ends up giving employment in L’Hospitalet. We are not surprised that a strong link has been established between a country’s air connectivity and the wealth of its citizens.” For all these reasons, Sans concluded, “we are not putting a wall in the middle of the sea for young people, we are not putting doors on our future, let’s connect to the world and the global economy, but to the expansion of Barcelona Airport”.

AIJEC has participated in an act that has also had the participation of representatives of the UFEC, the Círculo de Economía, Barcelona Global, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, PIMEC, Fomento del Trabajo, RACC, Vueling, Level and ESADE.
